Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death among women. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. A diagnosis of breast cancer is a big moment in the lives of the women who receive this terrible news from their doctors. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same.
The Mary Joan Breast Cancer Support Group is a foundation that was established in Aruba in 2007. The Mary Joan Foundation offers support and encouragement to women affected by breast cancer and help their families cope. The group also conducts workshops in which they give crucial information about breast cancer, the disease, it’s symptoms, early detection and it’s treatment. To be able to stage these activities, the Mary Joan Foundation organizes several events per year to generate funds.
Miss Aruba Larisa Leeuwe supports the Mary Joan Foundation by joining the group’s fundraising activities, and encouraging women to have an early detection plan for breast cancer. Larisa made a donation of Afl 250,- to the Mary- Joan Foundation supporting their fundraising and the fight against breast cancer.
